Summary of Role:       

This position is for a BEOL/MOL patterning process integration engineer to be a part of the GLOBALFOUNDRIES Technology Research group at Albany NanoTech Albany, NY.  The job involves working in the research alliance with engineers from other partner companies. The primary objective of this position is patterning integration and process flow development of advanced BEOL and MOL modules to enable 7nm and beyond platform technologies. The selected individual will work closely with the various unit process development teams as well as design teams defining and executing the integration to meet advanced node requirements. In addition the employee will also transfer technology developed in Albany to GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab8 facility in Malta, NY.

Essential Responsibilities:      

  • Collaborate with partner engineers and participate in joint research and development of advanced BEOL/MOL integrated modules for 7nm technologies and beyond.
  • Drive research and development of advanced BEOL/MOL integration by planning, executing and analyzing experiments in Albany NanoTech research facility.
  • Coordinate with unit process teams to define required processes and their integration to meet target specifications.
  • Track and disposition experimental material in the Fab. Monitor line performance and in-line signals to ensure generation of predictable, repeatable and timely results.
  • Work with GLOBALFOUNDRIES and partner unit process, design and reliability teams to plan and execute overall projects and implement solutions on schedule.
  • Establish and maintain high quality technical reporting, documentation, methodologies for process transfer, generation of intellectual property, and external journal and conference publication.
  • Transfer technology developed to the GLOBALFOUNDRIES' production facility, Fab8, in Malta, NY.
  • Work with external research organizations such as SRC funded universities, IMEC, and Sematech to extract ROI for GLOBALFOUNDRIES.
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security Requirements and programs

Required Qualifications:        

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, or in a related discipline plus 8 years of experience in BEOL/MOL integration or related unit process field(s) with emphasize on patterning (lithography and etch) or related
  • International and domestic travel may be required
  • Fluent in English Language - written & verbal
  • Ability to relocate to Albany, NY

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, or in a related discipline plus 5 years  of experience in BEOL/MOL integration or related unit process field(s) with emphasize on patterning (lithography and etch) or related.
  • PHD degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, or in a related discipline;  plus 5 years of experience in BEOL/MOL integration or related unit process field(s) with emphasize on patterning (lithography and etch) or related.
  • Hands-on knowledge of BEOL and MOL integration and associated fab processes.  FEOL integration experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in research and development of integrating advanced and complex processes and process technologies.
  • Solid understanding of metallization including deposition methods, material properties characterization, and material interactions.
  • In-depth understanding and working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and/or Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with diverse teams, customers, internal and external partners.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, energetic, and self-starter
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a globally matrixed team or environment
  • Strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and able to react to shifting priorities to meet business needs
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitments
  • Experience as MOL module or level owner in advanced CMOS research and/or development.
  • Experience and understanding of high volume manufacturing preferred
  • Understanding of FEOL, MOL, and/or BEOL integration is a plus. Understanding and knowledge of current MOL integration trends and roadmap is a plus.
  • IBM Alliance experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization and preferred candidates will have demonstrated the ability to build strong, working relationships outside the organization with external partners.
  • Strong organizational skills along with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, able to react to shifting priorities to meet business need, and the ability to meet deadlines and commitments
