Job Description

ASU, recognized for the last 9 consecutive years by US News and World Report as the most innovative university, is seeking a Lead AV Field Engineer to join the University’s Learning Experience (LX) group. Housed within ASU’s Enterprise Technology team, LX designs and maintains a wide inventory of technology-enhanced spaces that catalyze learning and innovation. The Lead AV Field Engineer occupies a central role in LX’s delivery of AV as a service to the University by coordinating a team that troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and monitors advanced technology environments in university spaces. These spaces include conference rooms, enclaves, classrooms, lecture halls, and auditoriums among others. 

Salary Range

$60,000 - $70,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Coordinate the work of LX’s AV field engineers, providing expert guidance related to AV incidents, requests, and projects
  • Actively monitor our IT service management platform for incidents and requests; respond promptly and accordingly; maintain communication with requestors; assign work as appropriate and manage team capacity
  • In collaboration with LX’s AV coordinators, plan shop and field activities related to AV projects, including but not limited to: staging; rack fabrication, installation and deinstallation; network and IP configuration of AV devices; system verification; user training. 
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose AV/VTC systems in University spaces; perform or coordinate repair/triage
  • Manage LX’s inventory of equipment and materials
  • Work closely with numerous other skilled professionals, including AV integrators; electricians and other facilities maintenance personnel; facility and IT security; telecommunications technicians and engineers.
  • Stay current with industry trends and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or closely related field AND 6 years providing instructional technology diagnostic and trouble-shooting support in a client server, cross platform environment. OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Certifications: AVIXA CTS/CTS-I strongly preferred; manufacturer certifications (e.g. Biamp, Crestron, Extron, Harman, Shure).
  • Prior experience as a team lead or supervisor.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex audiovisual environments and implementing fixes, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Expertise utilizing IT service management platforms such as ServiceNow.
  • Familiarity with higher education business processes.
  • Experience collaborating with a diverse assembly of partners and stakeholders.
  • Ability to model empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing and walking; frequent physical demands may include stooping, bending, crawling under/around objects, working at height on ladders, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to and over 100 pounds.
