The Director, Employee Relations is responsible for leading our Employee Relations center of excellence (COE) team whose core function is to provide consultative and investigation services to aid in the resolution of workplace concerns.

This role will develop and lead a centralized employee relations function. Identify and address issues impacting the employee experience during critical moments in the employee life cycle such as policy violations, workplace accommodations, and workplace concerns relating to EEOC allegations, workplace threats, safety, etc. This role will lead investigations and will be responsible for establishing process, procedures, and training to support employees to lead investigations with consistency and compliance. Director, Employee Relations will partner closely with business leaders, Employment Legal, HR Business Partners, and COE partners.
  • Employee Relations Center of Excellence:
    • Create a plan for building and leading a COE for employee relations and investigations that will be available to support our field and corporate HR partners.
    • Develop standard practices and processes that define the flow of appropriate cases to refer to the COE, how the COE and HR partner during the process, how cases are brought to resolution and how the case is documented.
  • Direct and manage high volume of employee relations investigations or escalations regarding complaints, harassment, integrity violations, performance concerns, policy violations, workplace concerns relating to EEOC allegations, workplace threats, safety, retaliation, etc..
  • Collaborate with HR, Labor Relations and Employment Counsel/Legal on solutions, investigatory outcomes and/or formal disciplinary action and provide recommendations.
  • Consult with the HR partners during an intake process to understand the case and issues at hand. Identify stakeholders and appropriate individuals to interview.
  • Conduct or oversee investigations in a timely, objective and thorough manner.
  • Conduct interviews regarding the complaint in an empathetic manner that diffuses the situation and leads to the underlying issues so that they can be researched and resolved.
  • Building a Positive Work Environment & Training:
    • Based on the review of employee or manager sentiments and volume of associated cases, present insights on trends and best-practices.
    • Develop and conduct guidance and/or training for the HR team to foster a positive work environment
Education
  • Required: BA/BS
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Human Resources or related field
  • SPHR certification preferred


Experience
  • Minimum 10 years progressive human resources experience in all facets of HR.
  • Advanced HR knowledge, and general knowledge of employment laws and HR investigation best practices with a strong background in employee relations, employment practices, labor relations and workplace investigations.
  • Technical HR knowledge - EEO/AA, FLSA, OSHA, federal/local laws
  • Demonstrated experience managing HR investigations with a high level of confidentiality and discretion.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to present to all levels within the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills with a proficiency in analyzing and reporting on ER investigation data
  • Experience diffusing tension and effectively mediating conflict.
  • High-quality judgment, and sound decision-making.

  • Strong computer skills (Outlook, MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, HRIS/payroll systems experience).


Working Conditions
  • Normal office conditions.
  • Travel required, at times with little advance notice.
